Brett Harte is a Philadelphia-based animator and 3D artist with more than 10 years of experience working across animation, interactive media, games, and digital production. His work tends to live somewhere between the creative and technical sides of a project, from character animation and rigging to 3D modeling, real-time experiences, and tools designed to make production a little easier.
His interest in that overlap goes back to his education. Brett studied New Media at Penn State Abington before earning an M.S. in Digital Media from Drexel University. While at Drexel, his graduate thesis explored how traditional principles of animation could be applied to interaction in virtual reality, specifically examining the use of exaggeration as a way of communicating and reinforcing user interaction. He later continued his character animation training through AnimSchool.
Professionally, Brett has worked on projects ranging from character and creature animation for games to interactive applications, VR experiences, 3D environments, modeling, rigging, and technical art. Over the years, he has also become increasingly interested in the systems behind the work, building tools and workflows in Blender and Unity when the existing process could be faster or more reliable.
His approach to most projects is pretty simple: make things that look good, move well, and work the way they’re supposed to. Sometimes that means animating a character, sometimes it means building the thing the character is standing next to, and sometimes it means figuring out why none of it is working in the engine.
